Overview

The SKALE Portal provides an easy-to-use interface for staking SKL tokens. This guide walks you through the complete process of staking your SKL tokens through the portal.
Important: Staking is currently available ONLY on Ethereum Mainnet. All staking operations must be performed on Ethereum Mainnet, not on SKALE Chains.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:
  • Web3 Wallet - MetaMask, WalletConnect, or hardware wallet
  • SKL Tokens - SKL tokens on Ethereum Mainnet
  • ETH Balance - Small amount of ETH for gas fees
  • Ethereum Mainnet - Connected to Ethereum Mainnet network

Step 1: Access the SKALE Portal

  1. Navigate to the SKALE Portal
  2. Click on “Staking” in the navigation menu
  3. You’ll be directed to the staking interface

Step 2: Connect Your Wallet

  1. Click the “Connect Wallet” button
  2. Select your preferred wallet:
    • MetaMask - Browser extension wallet
    • WalletConnect - Mobile wallet connection
    • Hardware Wallet - Ledger, Trezor, etc.
  3. Approve the connection request in your wallet
  4. Ensure you’re connected to Ethereum Mainnet
If you’re not on Ethereum Mainnet, switch your network in your wallet. The portal will prompt you if you’re on the wrong network.

Step 3: Verify Your SKL Balance

  1. Once connected, your wallet address will be displayed
  2. Check your SKL Balance shown on the portal
  3. Ensure you have sufficient SKL tokens for staking
  4. If needed, acquire SKL tokens or bridge them from SKALE Chains

Step 4: Browse Validators

  1. Navigate to the “Validators” section
  2. Browse available validators:
    • Validator Name - Name and identifier
    • Performance Metrics - Uptime, reliability scores
    • Commission Rate - Validator’s commission percentage
    • Total Staked - Amount of SKL staked with validator
    • Delegator Count - Number of delegators
  3. Review validator details and performance history
  4. Select a validator that meets your criteria

Step 5: Select Staking Period

  1. Click on your chosen validator
  2. Review available staking periods:
    • Different periods offer different reward rates
    • Longer periods typically offer higher rewards
    • Consider your liquidity needs
  3. Select your preferred staking period
  4. Review the estimated rewards for your selected period

Step 6: Enter Staking Amount

  1. Enter the amount of SKL you want to stake
  2. The interface will show:
    • Staking Amount - Amount you’re staking
    • Estimated Rewards - Projected rewards
    • Gas Fee Estimate - Estimated ETH gas cost
  3. Review the staking summary
  4. Ensure you have sufficient ETH for gas fees

Step 7: Confirm and Submit

  1. Review all staking details:
    • Validator selection
    • Staking period
    • Staking amount
    • Estimated rewards
    • Gas fees
  2. Click “Stake” or “Delegate” button
  3. Your wallet will prompt you to confirm the transaction
  4. Review the transaction details in your wallet
  5. Approve the transaction
  6. Wait for transaction confirmation on Ethereum Mainnet

Step 8: Monitor Your Staking

  1. After confirmation, navigate to “My Staking” or “Portfolio”
  2. View your active staking positions:
    • Staked Amount - Amount currently staked
    • Validator - Validator you’re staked with
    • Staking Period - Remaining staking period
    • Earned Rewards - Rewards accumulated
    • Status - Current staking status
  3. Monitor validator performance
  4. Track your rewards over time

Managing Your Staking

View Rewards

  1. Navigate to your staking position
  2. View Earned Rewards - Rewards you’ve accumulated
  3. Check Reward History - Historical reward distribution
  4. Monitor Reward Rate - Current reward rate

Claim Rewards

  1. Navigate to your staking position
  2. Click “Claim Rewards” when rewards are available
  3. Confirm the transaction in your wallet
  4. Wait for confirmation
  5. Rewards will be added to your wallet balance

Undelegate

  1. Navigate to your staking position
  2. Click “Undelegate” or “Unstake”
  3. Review the unbonding period information
  4. Confirm the undelegation request
  5. Your tokens will enter the unbonding period
  6. After the unbonding period, you can withdraw your tokens

Withdraw After Unbonding

  1. After the unbonding period completes
  2. Navigate to your completed staking position
  3. Click “Withdraw”
  4. Confirm the withdrawal transaction
  5. Your SKL tokens will be returned to your wallet

Tips for Successful Staking

Validator Selection

  • Research Validators - Review validator performance and history
  • Check Uptime - Choose validators with high uptime
  • Consider Commission - Lower commission means more rewards for you
  • Diversify - Consider staking with multiple validators

Staking Period

  • Longer Periods - Typically offer higher rewards
  • Liquidity Needs - Consider when you might need your tokens
  • Risk Tolerance - Longer periods mean longer lock periods

Security

  • Verify URLs - Always use the official SKALE Portal URL
  • Check Transactions - Review all transaction details before confirming
  • Hardware Wallets - Use hardware wallets for large amounts
  • Never Share Keys - Never share your private keys or seed phrases

Troubleshooting

Wallet Connection Issues

  • Refresh Page - Try refreshing the portal page
  • Reconnect Wallet - Disconnect and reconnect your wallet
  • Check Network - Ensure you’re on Ethereum Mainnet
  • Clear Cache - Clear browser cache and try again

Transaction Failures

  • Insufficient Gas - Ensure you have enough ETH for gas
  • Network Congestion - Wait for network congestion to clear
  • Transaction Limits - Check if you’ve hit any transaction limits
  • Contact Support - Reach out to SKALE support if issues persist

Staking Issues

  • Insufficient Balance - Ensure you have enough SKL tokens
  • Validator Capacity - Validator may not be accepting new delegations
  • Minimum Amount - Check if you meet minimum staking requirements
  • Period Restrictions - Some periods may have restrictions
